Water vapour is everywhere and it has the ability to permeate into any and every electronics system because it can pass through the actual materials the case or enclosure is made from. Coatings, cases and packages are mainly designed to keep out liquid water and many of the materials they use can be virtually useless when it comes to water vapour - silicone, cellulose, EVOH or PVOH are examples of this.
And to make matters worse, once moisture permeates in it condenses into a liquid and can't get out again!
Versaperm has designed and introduced a specialist range of equipment to measure the vapour permeability of complete electronic enclosures and components as well as flat material and multi-layer laminates, finished products and coatings. It is designed for use in both development and quality control environments.
Results are typically accurate in the Parts Per Million (PPM) to Parts Per Billion (PPB) range and it can measure multiple components, material samples, seals or enclosures at the same time. Environmental conditions can be controlled including temperature ( -80 to over +1000 C ), pressure, environment and partial pressure / humidity.
Variants of the system work not only with water vapour but also with any of the vapours commonly present around electronics, including hydrocarbons, solvents, CO2 and the gases used during manufacture.
The system is easy to use and quickly produces results which are reliable, accurate and repeatable.
Versaperm also offers a laboratory service for companies that only need to test samples on an irregular basis.
